Diamond Museum Bruges
Diamond cutting: it all began in Bruges, more than 500 years ago.
Discover how diamond cutting was developed by the Bruges goldsmith Lodewijk van Berquem, in the rich period of the Dukes of Burgundy, long before Antwerp and Amsterdam.
Learn about the craft of diamond working: sawing, cutting, cleaving, setting and polishing.
Take the opportunity to gain insight into the secrets of the diamond trade, often inaccessible to outsiders.
The exhibition ends with some very beautiful diamonds: rough diamonds, coloured diamonds, fancy-cut diamonds, as well as a very precious collection of old Flemish jewellery.
Daily demonstration of diamond cutting at 12.15 pm (groups by appointment).
The diamond museum is situated in a beautifully restored 17th-century house, not far from the Beguinage.
